  • Scientific Facts about the Real Life Species that Inspired the Finding Dory Characters

Scientific Facts about the Real Life Species that Inspired the Finding Dory Characters

Lucid Publishing specializes in books that give students scientific facts about marine life. Several of our titles include information about the species that inspired the characters from the movies Finding Dory and Finding Nemo. For example: Did you know??? The Ocellaris clownfish is also known as the false percula clownfish, common clownfish, or anemonefish. Its scientific name is Amphiprion ocellaris. This common clownfish has a small stocky body and will grow to about 4 inches.  This species is usually orange with three white stripes outlined in black. Anemonefish can be found in the Eastern Indian Ocean, the Western Pacific Ocean, Northern Australia, Southeast Asia, and Japan. Did you know that the common clownfish is only found where large anemones are found? So, you won’t find them in Hawaii or in the Atlantic. Anemonefish live in small groups on shallow reefs or in sheltered lagoons and may inhabit several different species of sea anemones. The bond between anemone and anemonefish is specific, only certain anemonefish and certain anemones will live together. Anemonefish are completely dependent on their sea anemones for shelter. Sea anemones provide protection for the fish and their nests. You can learn more about these species in our new title: Finding the True Stars of the Ocean, A Realistic Sea Life Coloring Book for Future Marine Biologists. Snippets of information may also be found in some of our ebook titles like: Fun Fish Facts, Coral Reefs, or Hawaii’s Green Sea Turtles. Read More

    Inspired by Finding Dory

Disney movies have inspired millions of little princesses. Compelling stories told on the big screen, can have a lasting effect on the families that watch them. How do you think Finding Dory will inspire your children? It is unlikely that they will be inspired to become fish. Instead, children may become fascinated with sea creatures and marine life and want to learn more about it. A movie like Finding Dory may even inspire your child to become a marine biologist, but this depends somewhat on how their fascination is supported and encouraged. After hearing about the release of Finding Dory, author Monika Mira was inspired to write and illustrate a book that offers factual information about the marine life that the characters are based on. Finding the True Stars of the Ocean is an educational sea life coloring book that is written for kids that are interested in becoming marine biologists or that simply wanting to learn more about these species. There are no bubble-eyed cartoon characters in this coloring book. Instead, Mira uses more realistic illustrations of marine life in its natural environment. Accompanying the colorable illustrations are fact sheets, where kids can learn about each species, their anatomical features, feeding habits, and their role in the ecosystem. “I’ve noticed that there seems to be some sort of innate human response to want to own things that are treasured,” says Mira. “ This is especially true for children, and it may be a form of inspiration. Finding Dory will be released tomorrow, Finding the True Stars of the Ocean will be released in late July

The world has been anticipating the release of Disney’s sequel to Finding Nemo. Finding Dory is scheduled to be released on June 17, 2016. Scientists however are bracing for an increase in the demand for salt-water aquarium fish like clownfish and the regal blue tang. Increased demand can cause declining populations of these species, and when fish populations change suddenly, scientists fear that it can upset the natural balance on the reef. With few regulations in place for collectors, habitat destruction is also a threat. So how does one go about saving the species that grace the screen and inspire awe in the children of world? Lucid Publishing and author, Monika Mira are using education is one method. This year, they believe that it is imperative to publish a book that would education youngsters and their parents about some of the real life characters that are found in blockbuster movies like Finding Nemo, Finding Dory, Shark Tale, The Reef and others. That book, is called Finding the True Stars of the Ocean, A Realistic Sea Life Coloring Book for Future Marine Biologists.
